Printed electronics, also called sometimes organic electronics or large area electronics , is a branch of electronics that deals with conductive polymers, plastics, small molecules but also in combination with other materials. It is characterized by the utilization of solution-based materials like organic semiconductors, inorganic semiconductors or conductors, etc.. Most of well established printing methos can be employed in adopted forms. Printing severals layers on top of each other requires special adoption and the development of printing methods is an essential step in the further development. Whereas the inkjet technology offers the possibility to small and customized series other printing technologies like roll-to-roll can be used for high numbers of similar devices at low prices.Compared to conventional electronics the performance is still reduced but it offers different characteristics which make it complementary, especially its flexibility and its low cost. |
